Bharat Ratna: The President’s Office has announced the Bharat Ratna award to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Mr. Vajpayee will be the seventh Prime Minister to receive the award, while Pandit Malviya will be the 12th person to be honoured posthumously.

Pre-2005 notes: The deadline for exchanging pre-2005 currency notes of various denominations, including Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, has been extended by another six month till June, 30, 2015.

Kailasam Balachander: South Indian filmmaker Kailasam Balachander died at the age of 85. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1987and is a recipient of the ANR National Award and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in cinema in 2010.

Snapdeal: E-retailing firm Snapdeal.com has lunched the online Agri store offering agriculture products to the famers. The Agri Store aims to offer wide variety of farm items from seeds to fertilizers, farming tools and irrigation tools. This online store is also accessible through mobile phones, making it convenient for farmers to shop.

Booth Colman: Television, film and stage actor Booth Colman has died in Los Angeles after a brief illness at the age of 91.

Taiwan: Taiwan has launched its largest ever missile warship named Tuo Chiang. The 500-tonne corvette missile is the first of its kind ever developed by Taiwan.

Radhakrishna Vikhe: Congressman Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has been appointed as Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, the lower house.

Mathur Committee: Union Ministry of Home Affairs has set up Mathur committee to examine the possibility of constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for reinvestigation of the 1984 anti-sikh riot cases.

Joseph Sarget: American film director Sarget died in California at the age of 89.
