RBI sixth Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy rate 2014-15: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 15 January 2015 announced sixth Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Statement.

  • Repo Rate: 7.75 percent
  • Reverse Repo Rate (CRR): 6.75 percent
  • Cash Reserve Ratio: 4.0 percent
  • Marginal Standing Facility (MSF): 8.75 percent
  • Bank Rate: 8.75 percent

Prabhu Nath Dwivedi: Eminent Sanskrit scholar Prabhu Nath Dwivedi has been named as the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award 2014 for Sanskrit language.

Brett Lee: Australian cricketer Brett Lee on 14 January 2015 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 20-year career. Lee is currently playing in the Australia Big Bash League for Sydney Sixers team. Lee will retire from cricket at the end of Big Bash League 2015.

Bhakti Sharma: Indian open water swimmer Bhakti Sharma on 14 January 2015 set a world record by swimming 1.4 miles in 52 minutes in one degree temperature in the Antarctic Ocean. She is the first Indian women as well as to achieve this feat.

Anup Shrivasava: Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved appointment of Anupam Shrivastava as CMD (Chairman and Managing Director) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). 

Riddhi Siddhi Bullion Ltd: The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has imposed a penalty of 100 crore rupees on Riddhi Siddhi Bullion Limited (RSBL) for violation of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) norms.

Bharatiya Mahila Bank: Bharatiya Mahila Bank today has inked an agreement with HUL arm Lakme Salons to bring easy financing options to fuel women entrepreneurship. This partnership would help encourage more women to become Lakme Salon’s business partners. 

Canara Bank: Canara Bank has bagged three awards at the annual flagship event “MSME Banking Excellence Awards-2014” organised by Chamber of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CIMSME). Canara Bank has been adjudged as the “Best Bank Award-Winner” among other awards.

H.S. Brahma: H.S. Brahma to be next chief Election Commissioner of India. H.S.Brahma will be the 19th Chief Election Commissioner of India. He will replace V.S. Sampath.

PVR Cinema: The Ajay Bijli led PVR group is set to acquire Chennai’s premier movie exhibition company SPI Cinemas, popularly known as Sathyam Cinemas.
