Noble Prize 2014, Chemistry: American scientist Eric Betzig and William E Moerner and, German scientist Stefan W Hell have been selected for the 2014 Noble prize for chemistry for their work making ‘an optical microscope into nanoscope’.

India rank, 2014: India has been ranked 18th on the list of most desirable destinations to work as per the report released by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), totaljobs.com and The Network. The US has been ranked on the top followed by the UK, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.

World Bank: According to World Bank new report Indian economy is set to grow by 6.4 per cent in 2015-16.

Nokia: Telecom firm Nokia has announced that it will shut down its Chennai plant from November 1, 2014 as Microsoft has terminated mobile purchase agreement from the factory and it is left with no business.

Cramer Ball: Union Ministry of Civil Aviation as approved the appointment of Cramer Ball as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jet Airways. Jet Airways is a major airline based in Mumbai.

Apathukatha Sivathanu Pillai: Indian scientist Apathukatha Sivathanu Pillai has been awarded with the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award 2014 for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management. President Pranab Mukherjee was presented the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award 2014.

Siegfried Lenz: German author Siegfried Lenz died at the age of 88. He was one of Germany’s most significant post-war writers.

BHEL: Maharatna company Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 7,800 crore contract from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power project in Tamil Nadu.
